Overview
Go to southwestern Kenya for a 3 days Masai Mara safari and an encounter with the well-known Maasai tribe. Safaris in this 1,510km2 destination include views of the Great Migration, where herds of wildebeests, zebras and Thompson’s gazelles. These angulates move in tens of thousands and sometimes millions, and cross over from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. This annual cyclical event is best experienced between July to October when they cross the Mara River looking for water and better pasture in the Masai Mara.
Masai Mara National Reserve is also known as one of the few homes of the iconic Big five of Africa. Animal species placed in this category comprise lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Other extant wild animals that call this savannah destination home include cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, spotted hyenas, impalas, and waterbucks etc. Maasai communities survive in the areas around the reserve. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Masai Mara and Evening Game Drive
Our driver meets and picks you up from your accommodation in Nairobi or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. While you enjoy the transfer, scenic views that include the Great Rift Valley enhance the experience. Also, lunch is offered while on this 230 km long drive. Upon arrival, see a lot of resident mammals and birds in the reserve. Head to your lodge and check in. Go for a game drive later in the day. View more animals and birds before you return for dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 2: Game Drive and Visit the Maasai
On a game drive, explore another part of Masai Mara after your morning breakfast. The Mara Triangle in the west is one of them. You might like to see the Great Migration across the Mara River here. Escarpments offer breathtaking views to take photos. Have picnic lunch and explore the central part of the place. This offers views of large numbers of cheetahs, leopards, lions, elephants and others. Now head to a community outside the reserve to visit the renowned Maasai. A lot is offered by the lovely tribe. For instance, they sing and dance traditionally, while dressed in bold clothes. They narrate stories with details of their history, heroes and others. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Departure to Nairobi. End of Safari
Drive back to Nairobi after a leisurely breakfast at your lodge. Pause for more impressive scenes along the road to the capital. Lunch is served enroute, and once you arrive, be dropped off at your point of convenience. You can request this at your accommodation if not at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for a departure flight. This marks the end of your 3 days Masai Mara Safari.
