Overview
The 4 days Murchison Falls and Budongo chimpanzee tracking safari is a great time in the northwestern part of Uganda. A part from the Big 5 animals, you also meet the chimpanzees, who happen to be our closest extant relatives. You cannot debate against a primate species that shares over 98% of its DNA with humans. Meanwhile, lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes and rhinos constitute the Big 5. To see the Murchison Falls, a boat cruise is offered along the Victoria Nile. Your safari starts and ends in Kampala, or Entebbe if you like.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhinos
A dedicated driver from our company meets and picks you up from Entebbe Airport or accommodation where you spent the night. Along Kampala-Gulu highway, they transport you by road on a journey of 234 km from Kampala. This route offers a pause at the Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch, just 77.5 km from your destination. Track the magnificent southern white rhinos and watch them for 2 hours, and do not bother them.
The ranger guide offers stories about their survival in the sanctuary and how they share the habitat with other wildlife. These include giraffes, waterbucks, bushbucks, zebras, hartebeest, warthogs, leopards and Uganda kobs etc. After Ziwa, you have to proceed to Murchison, but with your lunch offered in Masindi. Arrive in the park, view animals like antelopes, warthogs and giraffes on your way to the lodge. Check in, feel at home before dinner plus overnight stay inside.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Boat Cruise at 2:00 p.m.
On this second day of your 4 days Murchison Falls and Budongo chimpanzee tracking safari better make sure you take breakfast. Then, drive across the park’s northern sector to enjoy your game drive that takes 2-3 hours. In the sector drive on various game tracks for opportunities to see lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, oribis, hartebeests and waterbucks etc. The sector’s vast landscapes comprise beautiful savannah vegetation for beautiful photography.
Refresh back at your lodge while you think of the afternoon boat cruise. After lunch, expect to float on the Nile River as you head toward the powerful Murchison Falls. While on a motorboat view large numbers of birds, crocodiles, hippos, elephants and antelopes. The park guide talks about the wildlife common along the river while you take photos. Get quite close to the falls and take more photos. Back at your lodge, enjoy the dinner in the evening and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trek in Budongo Forest
At Budongo Forest Ecotourism site, arrive and attend briefing on how your chimpanzee trek in the forest could turn out successful. Equipped with all the standard tips for the adventure, allow the tracker to lead you along chimpanzee trails. You search for a troop of chimpanzees to spend an hour close to them. Meanwhile, you watch and capture photos of them eat, hunt, play and move in trees or on the ground etc. Back at your lodge, have lunch and relaxation. An evening meal is also provided before your stay for the night.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trek in Budongo Forest & Departure
It is the fourth and final day of your 4 days Murchison Falls and Budongo chimpanzee tracking safari. Your day starts with breakfast at the lodge, and proceed to check out peacefully. Depart the park back to Kampala with lunch offered in transit. Arrive in the capital for drop off to end your 4 days Murchison Falls and Budongo chimpanzee tracking safari.
