Overview
This 7 days Rwanda safari includes gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking canopy walk, game drive, boat cruise and cultural experience. Destinations to explore include 3 of Rwanda’s heavyweights, i.e. Volcanoes National Park, Akagera National Park and Nyungwe National Park. With one of our elite driver guides start and end this amazing safari in Kigali. The guide is fluent in English, Rwandese, Swahili, French German, Spanish and other local languages.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Airport Pick up and Transfer to Akagera National Park
As soon as you arrive at Kigali International Airport, our guide identifies you. He/she greets you and transfers you to Akagera National Park, 96.3 kilometers by road. On the road, see the city, the countryside and many landscapes. Arrive inside the park and check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight to the next day.
Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Tour on Lake Ihema
There is a game drive to be done once you finish your breakfast. The wilderness is a place where the Big 5 roam, so drive to see lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffaloes. More wild views offered include elands, bushbucks, topis, zebras and hippos etc. After lunch explore more wildlife and landscapes of the park on a motorboat. A boat cruise on Lake Ihema is also a great experience in this 7 days Rwanda safari. This is because the lake offers a lot of beautiful scenes to view. From hippos to crocodiles to birds like African hoopoes, saddle-billed storks, and shoebills etc. In the evening at your lodge have some dinner, and then settle in for the night.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and Optional Iby’iwachu Cultural Village Tour
Wake up for breakfast at the lodge because this third day of the 7 days Rwanda safari is very nice. Transfer from Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park through Kigali city. Drive on road a distance of 210 kilometers with lunch provided while on the move. At Kinigi, arrive and check in at your lodge. If time allows visit the Iby’iwachu Cultural Village to explore diverse Rwandan culture. The country’s heritage feels so authentic or raw, with energetic Rwandan traditional music and dance performances. Check out how the traditional cuisine is prepared. Approach storytellers to narrate the country’s history. End your experience with dinner and overnight in your lodge room.
Day 4: Gorilla Trek in the Morning
Breakfast is served to you just when you wake up in the morning. A gorilla trek in the forest of the park is the next adventure on this 7 days Rwanda safari. Guided by excellent trackers, hike inside the forest in an enjoyable search for a habituated mountain gorilla group. Your eyes watch the gorillas when you find them. This is for 1 hour, before you return to your lodge. You can spend the next few hours of the day relaxing at your lodge. When evening comes, enjoy the dinner served in the restaurant. Get into your bed in the night and sleep until the next day.
Day 5: From Volcanoes Transfer to Nyungwe NP Via Lake Kivu
Breakfast is prepared already for you to take before you leave. Departure to Nyungwe National Park covers 236 kilometers by road. Pass via Lake Kivu for the scenic views and lunch. Arrive in Nyungwe Forest for dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 6: Track Chimpanzee in the Forest. Afternoon Canopy Walk
On this sixth day, you have to meet man’s closest relative in their natural home. Take breakfast and move to the reception of the park in the forest. A community composed of only habituated chimpanzees is inside the forest. You track and see them after a briefing session arranged by the park rangers. There is a tracker offered to help you in the search for the primates in the forest. Meanwhile, use the 1 hour provided to watch the chimpanzees display a lot of behaviors in the trees and forest floor.
There is lunch well-prepared back at the lodge for you. Once fully re-energized return to the forest for a canopy walk. From the Uwinka Visitor’s Center start to hike toward the Canopy walkway inside Nyungwe Forest. From 70 meters above ground, walk on this 160-meter platform for a chance to see multiple species of birds, primates, butterflies, trees and other mammals etc. End the day’s adventures with dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 7: Depart Nyungwe Forest to Kigali
At your leisure time, take breakfast at your lodge before check out. Depart Nyungwe National Park and head back to Kigali, which is 177 kilometers from the forest. This drive promises a great time because scenic views and enroute lunch are unmissable. Arrive in the capital city, for your drop-off, which is done at your accommodation. Alternatively, arrive at the airport for the scheduled flight home. You have finished your 7 days Rwanda safari.
